Japanese red-crowned crane observation tour ! - Summer schedule -

Let's get to know the Japanese crane! This is an all season tour which provides the possibility to see the Kushiro marshland and lets us realize the symbiosis of nature and humans while observing the Japanese crane.  - Summer Schedule -

MARCH ... from the feeding places to Marsh land. making a nest.

collecting died reeds and makes a nest

it is form of plate approximately 30cm in height and 2m in diameter.

in general, they have two eggs and are brooding of eggs for approximately 32 days.

their territory is extensive with 2 to 7 square kilometres.

MAY ... hatching

after brooding of approximately 32 days, Chicks are borne in approximately 130g in weight, 13cm in length.

a feather dries after incubation in 3-4 hours, and the fledgling begins to move when they do it in the half day.

fledgling begins to move and leaves the nest with a parent bird in 3 days.

AUGUST ... flight

The fledgling becomes able to fly after incubation for approximately 100 days.

It becomes the almost same size of their parent bird , but the top of a neck is still brown.

OCTOBER ... from Marsh land to the feeding place

parent birds come over to the feeding place with their juveniles.

they go to the feeding place and return their roost a day until March of the next year.

their parting begins in about February and the parent bird leaves their juveniles there and comes back to their territory in Marsh land.

The juveniles make groups with another young birds until they become the adult bird at 4 years old.
